Fundraising w/UFW Pres. Arturo Rodriguez.

Why farm workers?

Throughout the world, throughout history, the campesinos, the peasants have always been the poorest of the poor. It is no different here. One of the UFW organizers made a speech that included how California agribusiness is the system the growers set up to replace the plantation system of slavery.

Organizing farm workers has been a tough row to hoe and finally Cesar Chavez succeeded. Cesar changed history, for farm workers, for labor, for Hispanics who can now demand the same respect and opportunities as everyone else.

Why fundraising?

If I had ten dollars for everybody I know who is afraid to ask for money, I'd be way over my goal. Cesar said you can't scare the people who are not afraid anymore. A lot of fundraising is simply about not being intimidated.

What is there to be afraid of anyway? We're just hooking up nice people with money to opportunities to leave their footprint on the process of changing the world for the better. When a large number of people fund a cause through the mail or online it's really a form of democracy. The people have gotten together to cure disease, right wrongs and rebuild lives. Remember, "The people united shall never be defeated."

Nowadays when the forces of greed and injustice want to win in the United States, rather than bring out the billy clubs and fire hoses, they launch PR campaigns. They waste your money and time and hope to drive you out of business. That's why businesses and nonprofits close their doors, lack of money.

Or... they get a lot of friends together and rally, flourish and grow. Leave your footprint on the world and send a donation now.

Please help me in my goal of raising money to help farm workers win basic rights and dignity. Cesar Chavez' UFW is leading this fight for the men, women and children who toil in the fields. I want to be part of making it happen. Cesar's birthday is March 31. Celebrate his life's work by making a donation today!
