You are invited to attend Sunday & Monday services for Helen F. Chavez, wife of Cesar Chavez
Helen Fabela Chavez, 88, who played a vital role helping her husband give birth to what became the first enduring farm workers union in U.S. history—and sustained him during the 31 years he led the United Farm Workers of America—passed away of natural causes on Monday, June 6 at San Joaquin Community Hospital in Bakersfield surrounded by many of her seven surviving children, 31 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Details of services were announced Tuesday, June 7, by the Chavez family. Helen will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Cesar E. Chavez National Monument at La Paz in Keene. You are invited to join the Chavez family to celebrate Helen's life and contributions. It is strongly recommended you be sure to attend the 6 p.m. Sunday Rosary and all-night vigil because capacity at the church during the Monday morning Mass and especially at the Memorial Garden for the burial is very limited.
As space will be limited, please RSVP for planning purposes and let us know specifically which days and parts of the ceremonies you will be attending. We encourage people to carpool as parking will be limited.
