Tell your Senator to say "NO" to CEO Andy Puzder as Labor Secretary

The Labor Secretary’s job is to look out for American workers. Trump’s nominee for Labor Secretary is Andy Puzder, the CEO of CKE Restaurants, which includes the Carl’s Jr. fast food chain. What is Puzder known for? Answer: Running a business model that has produced widespread labor abuses at the companies.

According to data compiled by Bloomberg BNA, over the previous seven years, about 60 percent of all Labor Department investigations of Carl's Jr. Restaurants found violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act. In addition to the older allegations, just last month
, according to Associated Press, current and former workers at Hardee's and Carl's Jr. announced that they have filed 33 new state and federal complaints against their employers. The charges include wage theft, overtime issues, sexual harassment and unfair labor practices. Does that sound like someone who should be in charge of the Department of Labor?!

Puzder’s confirmation hearing has been set for Thursday, Feb. 16. This is the fourth time the confirmation hearing for the fast-food CEO has been rescheduled as Puzder had not submitted the required paperwork needed by committee members for review before the hearing.

From what we’ve seen, protecting the rights of the working people who labor at his company or its franchisees doesn’t seem to be a priority. Puzder has been an outspoken advocate against raising the minimum wage. Instead of being concerned that workers make a living wage, Puzder is another rich guy whose past has shown he will not create the type of jobs that people voted for. Puzder has discussed an automated future at restaurants. "They're always polite, they always upsell, they never take a vacation, they never show up late, there's never a slip-and-fall, or an age, sex, or race discrimination case," says Puzder of machines.”

There is no way Puzder should be Labor Secretary. Because of rule changes, Senate Republicans need a simple majority when they vote to confirm a nominee. This means that we have to get some Republicans to vote against his nomination. Please take action now and email your senator today. Tell your senator the American people did not vote for low paying jobs. They did not vote for less protections. Ask them to vote “no” on the appointment of Andy Puzder for Labor Secretary.
